Doors & ratings

Check what your project requires before choosing a product.

What is the difference between an FD30 and FD60 fire door?

FD30 and FD60 commonly refer to 30 and 60 minutes of fire resistance under specified test conditions. The required rating depends on the building, the door's location and the applicable fire strategy. A rating applies to a tested or assessed door assembly and should not be inferred from the door's appearance alone.

How do I know whether I need FD30 or FD60?

Check the approved plans, door schedule, applicable building guidance and fire strategy for the specific opening. If the required rating is unclear, ask your designer, building control body or another suitably competent professional before ordering. We can help identify products matching a confirmed specification but do not determine the rating required for a building.

See our Compliance Hub →

What do FD30S and FD60S mean?

The “S” indicates a smoke-control requirement in addition to the stated fire resistance. The correct seals, components and supporting evidence must suit the particular assembly. Select a smoke-control specification only when it is required for your opening.

Do you sell made-to-measure fire doors?

Yes. Use our Fire Door Configurator to specify the options available for a custom door. Check all measurements and the required rating carefully before placing your order. If your requirements fall outside the available options, contact us for a product enquiry.

Do fire doors come with a frame, glazing and hardware?

It depends on the particular product and the options you select. Some shop products are door leaves only; a frame, glazing or ironmongery may need to be ordered separately. Read the product description and the cart summary to see what is included in your chosen configuration.

02 / Buying online

Ordering & quotes

How to place an order and when to speak to our team.

Can I buy online?

Yes. Fire Safety Store North West is an online shop. Browse All Products or use the Fire Door Configurator, then review your cart and checkout. Contact us if an option or product specification is unclear before placing the order.

Can trade customers order from you?

Yes. We supply products to trade buyers as well as homeowners and organisations. Browse and order online; for a larger order or a specification not shown online, email our team with the product requirements and quantities.

Can I request a quote for a larger order?

Yes. For more than 10 custom fire doors, contact our team for a commercial quote and an accurate consolidated lead time instead of splitting the quantity into multiple configurator orders. Include your door schedule, rating, dimensions, finish, glazing and delivery location where known.

Do you offer surveys, installation or fire door inspections?

No. We are an online product retailer and do not carry out site surveys, installation, fire door inspections or remedial work. If you need these services, appoint an appropriately competent provider for your building and project.

Can I change a specification after placing an order?

Contact us as soon as possible, quoting your order details. Whether an amendment is possible depends on the product and how far processing or manufacture has progressed. Review all selected sizes, ratings and finishes carefully before checkout.

03 / After ordering

Delivery & returns

Times shown are estimates and vary by product and destination.

Do you deliver throughout the UK?

Delivery availability and charges depend on the product, total consignment and address. Some non-mainland or non-standard destinations require a separate delivery quotation. Enter your address during checkout and contact us if your location or consignment cannot be priced online.

How long will my order take?

Lead times depend on the items ordered. The current product pages show an expected delivery within 3 working days for listed accessories and around 8 working days for certain made-to-order fire doors, measured from cleared payment and confirmation of the final specification. These are estimates, subject to availability and destination. Check the time shown for your chosen product or contact us before ordering if you have a deadline.

How much is delivery?

Charges depend on the door type, rating, glazing, total order and destination. Review the delivery amount calculated for the complete cart at checkout. A separate quotation may be needed for non-standard delivery areas or heavy consignments; do not assume the delivery price for one door applies to a larger order.

Can I return an item or cancel an order?

Cancellation and return rights depend on the product and circumstances. Consumer cancellation rights for online orders can apply to standard goods, while goods made to a customer's specifications or clearly personalised may be exempt from the usual change-of-mind cancellation right. Your statutory rights remain if goods are faulty, damaged or not as described. Read our Returns & Cancellations policy and contact us promptly with your order details.

What should I do if a delivery arrives damaged?

Inspect the packaging and product as soon as reasonably possible. Photograph any visible damage, retain the packaging and contact us promptly with your order number and photos so we can investigate. This does not limit your statutory consumer rights.

04 / Compatibility

Hardware & fitting

Hardware must be suitable for the door assembly in which it is used.

Do hinges, closers and other components need to be fire rated?

Components used on a fire door must be suitable for the specific assembly and application. This may require appropriate test or assessment evidence covering the chosen hinges, closer, seals, locks, latches and other parts. A product being marketed as “fire rated” does not, by itself, establish compatibility with every fire door.

Can I replace fire door ironmongery myself?

Replacing or altering hardware can affect the door's fire and smoke performance. Check the manufacturer's instructions and the evidence for the complete door assembly before making changes. Where work is needed, use an appropriately competent person; we sell products but do not carry out fitting or assess your door on site.

Can I fit a letterbox, viewer or kickplate to an existing fire door?

Only where the modification and exact component are permitted by the door assembly's supporting evidence and fitting instructions. Cutting an opening or changing hardware can invalidate the demonstrated performance. Check the door manufacturer's documentation before ordering or altering an existing door. Kickplates are offered through the fire door configuration process rather than our accessories listing.

Will a fire door leaf alone make an opening compliant?

No. The performance of a fire door depends on the complete assembly, its compatible components, installation and ongoing condition. A door leaf alone does not establish that the opening meets a particular fire or smoke specification. Read more in the Compliance Hub →
